Damodar Kunda Trek takes place in the eastern part of the upper Mustang region. This route is also popular for Saribung Peak climbing and traverses Nar Phu Valley of the Manang district. Damodar Kunda is the sacred site of Both Hindu and Buddhist devotees which lies at the height of 4890 meters from sea level.
Damodar Kunda is a holy place where Lord Krishna visited and took a bath. The Hindu devotees believe that the water of this area comes from the Lake Manasarovar of Tibet. In the Puran text of Hindu, it is mentioned that whoever pays a visit to the Damodar Kunda area and touches the sacred water from it will release all the sins.
In the Damodar Kunda area, there are three different small lakes commonly known as kundas in the Hindi and Nepali languages. They are namely Chakra Kunda, Sun Kunda, and Damodar Kunda. Each kunda has its own reason for its name. When Lord Krishna was taking a bath he deep into the Kunda and left his Chakra inside it which we called now Chakra Kunda. After that, he throws his gold ring in one of the Kunda which became the Sun Kunda. The third name Damodar Kunda comes from the cord which Krishna's mother Yashoda bound him for being mischievous.
