A Short Trek to Bethanchowk Narayanthan

Bethanchowk hill is recently explored and getting popularity as one of the finest places for camping near Kathmandu valley which is situated at an altitude of 3000m above sea level. It is located on the southern side of the Kavre district, is the highest peak of the Mahabharata range. Also known as the king of hills provides a 360-degree view of the surrounding hills and Himalayan ranges.

The Himalayan view can be seen including Tibetan peaks on the north and Indian plains on the south, Mt. Dhaulagiri on the west, Makalu on the east, Mt. Everest with a close view of Manaslu Himal, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Range, Dorje Lakpa are clearly visible from the top. On a clear day (no clouds) some views of the lowlands like Janakpur and Makwanpur district can be seen from the top of the hill. Sunrise and Sunset are magnificent.

This whole mountain is called Bethanchowk Narayanthan, named after the small temple; Narayanthan enshrined at the hilltop. Narayanan is crowded with devotees during the Fagu Purnima every year. It is a short and moderate trek in Kathmandu valley of 1-2 days. 

This trek is for those people who want to do the nearest short trek for refreshment and to enjoy the natural beauty. Unexplored trail, flora and fauna, beautiful mountain ranges, magnificent view of sunset and sunrise, beautiful sky, big and bright star also feeling of being above the clouds makes the best of Bethanchowk Hike. On the hilltop, there are no human settlements or not accommodation facilities available. So this trek is mainly for camping which makes you adventurous.

During the winter season (December, January, and February), Narayanthan observes snowfall. The people from Kathmandu valley who want to experience snowfall and play with snow can easily visit Bethanchowk Narayanthan. On a clear night, cities can be seen illuminating with lights. The sky is so beautiful at night and the star shows big and bright experiencing near to the sky. 

It will be a new or wild experience as there are no human settlements at the top of the hill, but camping and camp fire at night with singing and dancing going to be a wonderful memory with friends and family. The best season to visit this place is in Mangshir according to local people. But you can visit in spring, autumn and winter also.

It is a short adventurous trek within a low budget and short time constraint near the Kathmandu valley. For the busiest person and who doesn’t have time to travel, this place is a good weekend getaway. Bethanchowk Narayanthan has a beautiful scenery view that one should visit once during their lifetime.
