I’m Dawa Tseten Gurung, and I’m excited to share the journey that inspired the founding of Himalayan Wander Walkers—the local trekking and tour company you’re about to experience.
I grew up in a small village called Thingker in Upper Mustang, surrounded by the towering Himalayas. I still remember my very first trekking experience at the age of seven in 1996 when I walked with my father from our village to Beni Bazaar in the Myagdi District of western Nepal. It was an eight-day journey filled with nights under the stars and simple, shared meals. Those early memories ignited a lifelong passion for adventure, challenge, and the extraordinary beauty of the mountains.
From that moment on, I knew I wanted to share the magic of these landscapes with others. I pursued my studies in Pokhara and later in Kathmandu, deepening my understanding of both the world and the rich culture of my homeland. In 2013, after completing my trekking guide training, I became a licensed mountain guide. Since then, I’ve had the honor of leading trekkers through some of Nepal's most iconic and remote regions—from the breathtaking peaks of Kanchenjunga and the rugged terrain of Dolpo to the majestic trails of Everest, Langtang, Manaslu, Annapurna, and the hidden gem of Tsum Valley. Of course, Upper Mustang, my place of origin, holds a special place in my heart.
In my early years as a guide, I embraced a multitude of experiences—feeling the raw, biting wind on the Dolpo Circuit Trek, hearing the crunch of snow under my boots on the high passes of Kanchenjunga, and learning each trail as if it were etched into my palm. For me, these mountain trails are not just paths; they are home—a source of peace, challenge, and endless inspiration.
After years of invaluable guiding experience, I envisioned creating a trusted trekking company that reflects my deep love for the mountains. Thus, Himalayan Wander Walkers was born on January 3, 2018.
