Great Himalaya Trail - GHT

Great Himalaya Trail - GHT

The Great Himalaya Trail  (GHT) is the longest and highest Himalayan single trekking route that covers the distance of 1,700-kilometers approximately, stretching from the east end of Nepal (Kanchenjunga Region) to the west end (Far western Region). The purpose of this GHT is to link all the least explored mountain trekking destinations of Nepal. Nepal Tourism bodies and international organizations are working on this GHT project to bring changes in the socioeconomic of the communities in the Mountain region. Trekking in Nepal is limited to popular destinations like Annapurna, Langtang, and Everest to international travelers. Besides those, there are more than a hundred other beautiful trekking destinations that are unexplored yet. Thus, the GHT concept is to promote less traveled but worthy places covering 16 districts of Nepal.

The proposed trail of GHT is to cover the routes of all the 8 thousand meter mountains that are located in South Asian countries like Nepal, India, Bhutan, Tibet, and Pakistan. So, in the future GHT route will cover 4,500 kilometers and remain the longest altitude trekking trail in the world. Robin Boustead, a pro trekker, and guidebook writer is currently working on his GHT project and completed only the Nepal and Bhutan section in 2015 after 25 years of his Himalayan experience.

Robin Boustead says “People have only seen 20 percent of the Himalayas.”
