Nestled just a short drive from Kathmandu, the Dhap Dam hike offers a refreshing escape into nature with a perfect blend of scenic beauty and environmental significance. This picturesque man-made dam is located at the edge of Shivapuri National Park, which plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness of the sacred Bagmati River by collecting and storing rainfall during the monsoon season and releasing the water during the dry season to ensure that the Bagmati River continues to flow and remains unspoilt.

The Dhap Dam hike is ideal for nature enthusiasts, providing stunning views of lush forests, small villages, crystal-clear streams, and peaceful surroundings. It’s an excellent day out for those seeking tranquility and a moderate outdoor adventure. Whether you wish to capture photos, relax by the serene dam, or immerse yourself in the area's natural beauty, this hike has it all.

How to Get to Dhap Dam?
Sundarijal – Army Checkpoint – Forest Trail – Dhap Dam – Return via the Same Route

The easiest way to reach Dhap Dam is from Sundarijal, a scenic area located about 1 hour from Kathmandu. From there, you can take either a local bus, a taxi, or a private vehicle to Sundarijal. Sundarijal is well-known for its natural beauty and is a common starting point for various hiking routes. Once you arrive at Sundarijal, head towards the army checkpoint, where you can get your entrance ticket for the hike.

To begin your hike, you will start from the army checkpoint in Sundarijal. The trail will take you through lush forests, passing by small villages along the way. The climb is gradual and scenic, with crystal-clear streams and wooden bridges enhancing the experience. After about 3-4 hours of hiking, you will arrive at the tranquil Dhap Dam, where you can relax, take photos, and enjoy your packed lunch. The return journey will take around 4 hours, retracing the same beautiful route back to Sundarijal.
