Outline Itinerary ( 17 Days )

Day 1

Kathmandu (1300) to Kerung (2700m), 210km, approx 9hrs drive.

Your trip starts from Kathmandu. Himalayan Wander Walkers staff will receive you from your hotel at Kathmandu at 6 am. Today you will drive down to Rasuwa district of Nepal via Nagdhunga and follow the Trishuli River to the North from Galchi, and drive to Kerung through Dhunch and Saybrubasi to the border with is 140km.  At Rasuwaghat border you will go through the immigration formalities in the Nepali section and Chinese immigration formalities after crossing the bridge.  After all, you will meet our Tibetan Guide, standby with all the necessary documents and transportation with driver, and after immigration formalities drive to Kerung with 70 km. Overnight in Guesthouse.

 

Day 2

Kerung – Shigatse (3900m) via Tingri (4350m), 560 km, approx 9-10 hrs drive.

After your first breakfast at Kerung, you will drive to the highest plateau of the world with typical landscape offering the sheer feeling of being on the roof of the world crossing over the 5,050 meters Lalunga pass, from where you can view the breathtaking mountain range from Mt.Cho Oyu (8,201m) Mt.Xishapagma (8,012m) dwarfed by the vastness of Tibetan plateau (if weather permits). One can also take a magnificent view of Mt. Everest (8,848m) from Tingri/ Lhatse. Scenic drive through the highest point, Gyatchu La passes (5,220m) en route and finally reaches Shigatse for overnight.

 

Day 3

Exploration Day- Shigatse

Today you will pay a visit to the Tashi Lhunpo monastery established by Panchen Lama the second-highest Tulku lineage of Gelug (Yellow Head) sect of Tibetan Buddhism.  After lunch you will explore the Tibetan town, local market of Shigatse, and evening Kora at the monastery. Overnight at Same Hotel.

 

Day 4

Shigatse – Lhasa (3650m), 370km, approx 6 hrs drive.

As normal, you will start your drive to Lhasa after breakfast. The route follows along the shores of Yamdrok lake, windy over the Karo La (5010m), and the Zhimi La (4370m) to Gyantse (4070m). Before crossing the Tsangpo on a beautiful route climb to the pass of the Khampa La (4794m) and panoramic forward view of the Tsangpo.  After check-in at your hotel, you will have free time. Overnight Lhasa.

 

Day 5

First-day sightseeing in Lhasa.

Today you will visit the Drepung monastery, one of the largest monastery homes to more than 1000 monks. It is also an original residence fifth Dalai Lama before the establishment of Potala Palace.  After that, you will visit the Sera monastery, built in the15th century by a disciple of Tsongkhapa Jamchen Choji Sakya Yeshi the monastery holds a number of monastic colleges with several hundred monks from across Tibet. You will experience the popular Tibetan Buddhist philosophical and theological debates of the monks which happen in the debating courtyard every afternoon except the weekend. Finally, we will visit Norbulingka, established by the 7th Dalai lama and commonly known as the summer palace of Dalai Lama.

Day 6

Second-day sightseeing in Lhasa.

Today your day starts with a trip to the Old Lhasa city where we will visit the sacred Jokhang Temple, built during King Songtsen Gompo’s period. The precious and important statue of Buddhist (Jo Shakyamuni) is kept inside it. After visiting the inside of the temple you will be able to walk around Barkhor square (old biggest market) where you will see Buddhist devotees are having kora around the temple. and the biggest market area in Lhasa Old City.

Afternoon you will have the Potala Palace tour, the most iconic landmark in Tibet where you need to climb up the Red Hill. It is considered a UNESCO world heritage site since 1994. It was established in the 7th century by Buddhist King Songtsen Gampo and renovated in the 17th century which you can see at the present time.

Day 7

Drive to Samya Monastery (3560m) and Exploration 120km, approx 2 and a half hrs drive

Today you will drive to Samye after your breakfast. Samye Monastery, the oldest Buddhist Gonpa in Tibet from the 8th century. There are numerous meditation caves with breathtaking views of the Tsangpo Valley. In the afternoon you will hike up to Hipori Hill and overnight at Hotel. 

 

Day 8

Drive from Samye monastery to Gyantse (4025m), 280km approx 8 hours to drive

After breakfast drive to Gyantse crossing over Khamapala pass, drive along the Yamdroke Lake, lunch at Nakaratse, and drive through Karola Glacier to Gyantse. Visit Khumbum Stupa, Palco Chode, and Gyantse Fort. Tibet’s biggest Agricultural field Via Khamba-la pass & Yamdruk lake & Karo-la pass, overnight at Yeti hotel, visit Palchuk monastery and Kumbum stupa.

 

Day 9

Drive from Gyantse to Sakya (4160m), 240km approx 5 hours

Via Shigatse, overnight in Sakya hotel, visit Sakya monastery and Nunnery monastery, the altitude of Sakya is 4160m, One of the oldest Ghökang (Chamber of protective deities ) and the monastery Pälkhor Chode with art treasures. Visit the unique Kumbum, a walk around the stupa in the form of a multi-story mandala with 85 chambers with numerous sculptures in each chamber and a total of 27 ' 000 pictures of Buddhist deities. 

 

Day 10

Drive from Sakya to Saga (4450m), 350km approx 8 hours

Today drive from  Sakya to Saga, pass several high plateau lakes, towns, herders tents, and along the route with plateau mountain ranges covering, diverse forms of mountains are overlooking through the valley.

Day 11

Drive from Saga to Manasarovar (4500m), 500km approx 9 hours

Today you will drive to Manasarovar. After breakfast you will pass through a Paryang, Zhonba(4570m), Smalltown and you can view of Himalaya ranges. You will be driving on the huge grassland and cross the Mayam la pass(5220m)  after that you can see Yarlung Tsangpo river, a few hrs drive you to have a view of Mt Kailash (6714m) and Mt Gurla Mandata(7728m) as well Lake Manasarovar.

Day 12

Morning touring around Manasarovar Lake and drive to Darchen (4660m), 40km approx one hour

Morning visit to Chiwu Gonpa and explore around lake then afternoon short drive to Dechen.

 

Day 13

Darchen to Dira Phuk (4,900m), first day Kora (18km) approx 7 hours trek.

Darchen to Diraphuk 18km.Kora (circuit) begins to drive 10 km. cover to Tarboche and trek up to walk approximately about 04 / 05-hour Diraphuk.

Day 14

Drira Phuk to Zultul Phuk (4750m), Second-day kora (20km) approx 9 hours trek.

Trek to Zuthulphuk (4790m) 22km. walk approximately 08 / 10 hours – walk Continues, this is the day every pilgrim talks about, the most difficult journey throughout the trip, Trek up to Dolma La pass(5600m). We will offer very short prayers at Dolmala and move towards Gaurikunda. They programmed in the same as usual, Zuthulphuk overnight stays at Guesthouse.

Day 15

Zuldul Phuk to Darchen (4660m) Third-day kora (8 km) then continues to drive to Dongpa (4500m).

After Breakfast, we will trek around 8km. We will be reaching at the point, where our jeeps will be waiting to drive us to Darchen, Parikarma (Circuit) ends. After lunch, we will drive to Dongba via Manasarovar.

Overnight at Hotel.

 

Day 16

Drive from Dongpa to Kyirong 250km, approx 4 hours.

After breakfast Drive to Kerung. Enjoy Grandview of Mt Shishapangma(8021mt High) Gauri Shankar and other high mountains from Gurung La Pass(5050mt.high) Dongpa. Meal plan (B/L/D)

 

Day 17

Kerung – Kathmandu (1300m), 210km, approx 9 hours.

From Kerung, you cruise down to the border town Rasuwagadi Nepalese border where you bid farewell to your Tibetan guide and driver and hike down to the Nepalese Immigration Control where you will be met by your Nepalese escorts. After completing the re-entry formalities you continue the scenic drive to Kathmandu which, depending on road and weather conditions, should take about 7-8 hours.

Useful information

To apply for visa approval before your arrival we need:

A clear, color scan of your passport along with the advance amount of US $ 350.  This must be provided to us at least 35 days prior to the arrival in Kathmandu.

Health & Altitude problems:

Traveling in Tibet involves high altitude and can be strenuous. Clients with heart and lung problems or blood diseases should consult their doctor before booking the trip. Very often the cases of altitude sickness have been reported. A simple headache, fever, loss of appetite, or stomach disorders can happen before acclimatization. Advised, drink approx. 04 liters of water per day, do not strain yourself, move slowly, breathe deeply, and take regular rests.?
