Salleri Bazaar to Everest Base Camp trek is an alternative trekking route for many trekkers who want to avoid scary flights to Lukla from Kathmandu. This trek will take you from Solukhumbu (foothill of Everest) to the most demanding trekking destination, Khumbu (Everest Region).
Salleri to Everest Base Camp Trek is also chosen due to the hectic weather condition. Cancellation of flights to Lukla is normal and trekkers face many problems because of limited time in Nepal and even increase their costs by riding a helicopter to Lukla at the last minute. So, Himalayan Wander Walkers had created this Salleri to Everest Base Camp (EBC) but still many choose the popular Everest Base Camp Trek route which is shorter in duration.
If you start your trek from Salleri or Phaplu then it is not necessary to keep acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar as you already had spent more than three days before Namche. Acclimatization day is recommended to those who are trekking very fast and reach Namche within two days of a trek from Taksindu.
Salleri to Everest Region trek Route
Salleri to Everest Base Camp trek route provides an opportunity to explore both Solu and Khumbu in one single trek. The trek starts by driving from Kathmandu to Salleri or Phaplu in a sharing or private jeep. The total distance of 270 kilometers by jeep takes around 8-9 hours. From Phaplu it takes 30-40 minutes to reach Taksindu and it will be your first day overnight place. Your first day of a trek starts from Taksindu (3130m) to Kharikhola where you will bypass Nunthala village on the way. From Kharikhola it will take another two days to reach Namche Bazaar for experienced trekkers and three days for beginners by spending overnight in Paiya or Surke and Monjo. After Surke you will reach Chheplung where you will meet the main Everest trekking route. The left side route leads to Phakding and the right direction to Lukla. After Phakding you will follow the same EBC Trek Itinerary till Lukla.
Variation of Salleri to Everest Base Camp Trek
From Salleri trekking to three passes such as Chola Pass, Kongma la and Renjo La is also doable. The classic EBC trek from Jiri link Salleri Everest Base Camp Trek at Ringmu village that lies before Taksindu la. Some trekkers also go to Pikey Peak and then continue to Everest Base Camp through Junbesi village of Solukhumbu district.

Options to get Salleri or Phaplu From Kathmandu
- There is a regular flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu which costs less than the price of the Lukla Flight from Kathmandu.
- Buses are rare to get due to the narrow road to Salleri, Solukhumbu. So, there are TATA Sumo jeeps are available which depart early Morning from Kathmandu. Remember these small jeeps put up to 9 passengers in a single jeep and it makes your journey uneasy. if you are more than three and a maximum of 7 then hiring a Private Jeep to Salleri is recommended. - Driving to Jiri and then Trek from Junbesi is also another option to reach Salleri to Everest Base Camp Trek but it requires an extra few days.
Checklist for Salleri Everest Base Camp Trek
- Bring your Valid passport (valid for six months from the date of your trip) which is required during your flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla.
- MasterCard, Visa Credit, and Debit Cards are accepted in Lukla and Namche. Thereafter bringing cash in Nepalese rupees is highly recommended.
- Wifi is mostly available in almost all tea houses in the Everest region but Everest link Wifi is highly cost. Better buy Nepali Ncell SimCard which provides better service in the Khumbu Region through that you can buy Gega Bites pack for the Internet.
Lodging and Guide in Everest Trek from Salleri
In Nepal, all trekking supplies - Teahouse trekking means staying and eating in local lodges. You will stay in single rooms where possible, but often you will have to share. Rooms in the Everest Khumbu region are considered one of the finest Mountian hospitality in Nepal where you will get a bed with a pillow, and blankets. Below Tangboche have electric lights and above that, you can only find solar power. all have a spacious dining room lounge. You will eat at the same teahouse you will sleep and, although the food is usually plentiful and delicious, the menu is not extensive. They offer a variety of potatoes, rice, and noodle dishes, as well as soup and seasonal vegetables. Beers and local spirits are often available, but that will be at your own cost. A variety of cereals, bread, and egg dishes are generally available for breakfast. There are also snacks available such as basic biscuits, chocolate, and soft drinks and in some areas, you will find fresh fruit in season. It is normal to meet your porter in the teahouse where you will stay overnight. So, pack your necessary things in your day pack.
