Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek is an alternative trekking destination of Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trek where the Yalung Glacier is the last point of the trek to experience the closest view of Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), 3rd highest mountain in the world. For those who don’t have enough time to experience the Kanchenjunga circuit trek and don’t want to get higher than 5000 meters elevation, we suggest you do this trek where the north base camp, Pang Pema is situated at a height of 5,140 meters.

This trek offers you both the views of the Himalayas and the cultural experience of eastern Nepal which is home to different ethnic groups such as Rai, Limbu, and Sherpa peoples. There are some scenic viewpoints like Lasiya Bhanjyang where you can see the panoramic view of Kanchenjunga, Kumbokarna (Janu), and its neighboring peaks. Oktong is the last point of this trek from where you will see the close-up views of all three sisters of Kanchenjunga, Yalung, Kabru, Sikkim Peak, and Rathong Peaks. However, places around the Ramche are great for photography.

Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trekking Route:

South Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek route is clockwise which starts from the Taplethok after a short drive from Taplejung. Then the trail leads to Ramche of Yalung Glacier through some overnight stops in Yasang, Torangden, and Cheram. Then retrace to Torangden after reaching the last point at Oktong. Guiding, Food, and Lodging
Trekking in Nepal, all trekking supplies - Teahouse trekking means staying and eating in local lodges. We stay in single rooms where possible, but often you will have to share. The rooms are basic, normally just a bed with a pillow, blankets. A few have electric lights and all have a spacious dining room-lounge. We eat at teahouses and, although the food is usually plentiful and delicious, the menu is not extensive. They offer a variety of potatoes, rice and noodle dishes, as well as soup and seasonal vegetables. Beers and local spirits are often available, but that will be at your own cost. A variety of cereals, bread, and egg dishes are generally available for breakfast. There are also snacks available such as basic biscuits, chocolate, and soft drinks and in some areas, you will find fresh fruit in season. It is normal to meet your porter in the teahouse where you will stay overnight. So, pack your necessary things in your own day pack.
