Why choose a Jeep Tour for the Tiji Festival?

Some of the trekking trails in Upper Mustang are spoiled by the newly constructed Kora La highway connecting China on the northern border of Nepal via Beni and Jomsom. Himalayan Wander Walkers have created this trip to provide a choice for those who are not fond of trekking and physically not fit enough and also for those who have limited time.

What to Expect from the Upper Mustang Tiji Festival Jeep Tour?

The vicinity of Lo Kingdom consists mainly of ancient caves where people used to live, centuries-old wall paintings, Buddhist holy monasteries, snow-capped mountains, barren hills, unique landscapes, Tibetan culture, and beautiful villages that are still preserved well. This trip will provide you with a mystical touch of the unforgettable.

Himalayan Wander Walkers has organized both private and group joining treks/tours for more than a decade. Even during covid-19, we organized a Jeep tour for the Tiji Festival. Many visitors choose Himalayan Wander Walkers for Upper Mustang treks and tours because we are one of the most dedicated trekking and tour companies in Nepal, founded by enthusiastic young natives from Upper Mustang. All our trekking crew members are from Upper Mustang, and our local trekking guide will lead you in this Lo Kingdom, sharing his cultural and traditional stories on the trekking trail.

Reviews of Tiji Festival Trip

Radu; United States, Flying Monk Film

"First of all, attending the Tiji Festival was extraordinary. And the entire experience of the road all the way from Kathmandu to Lo Manthang was augmented by Dawa from Himalayan Wander Walkers, a local from a village in the Lo Manthang area who currently lives in Kathmandu. His knowledge of all places both in Lo Manthang and its surroundings was remarkable, and it was a pleasure to hike with him throughout the entire area. I highly recommend his trekking services."

The path descends gradually towards the Ghami La pass, and on the way, we see a rundown Ghami village surrounded by the field, Nepal's longest Mani wall, and partial red cliffs of Dhakmar. Afternoon, Ghami, you will drive to Dhakmar (red clip village) next to the longest Mani Wall. Then continue to Ghar Gomba, the main attraction of the day. You will have lunch here and then drive to Charang. Afternoon will be a time to visit Charang Monastery and the old fort of Mustang King.

Day 7

Drive to Ghara and visit Luri Gompa

Today, you are heading to the eastern part of Upper Mustang, where you will pay a visit to Luri Gompa. The road from Charang to Yara first came to the River Bank Tea shop, which was used for truck drivers to spend the night after a long drive from Pokhara. And from that spot the road goes in the left direction. You will enjoy the beautiful canyon and rock formations that surround the trail. When you reach the bridge just before the Dhee village, the valley widens up, and you see Surkhang village on your right side. The views are more rewarding and interesting than the western part of the Mustang. After a few minutes of gentle climbing, you will reach Yara. Yara is warmer than Upper Mustang. From Yara, it is a short drive to Ghara. After having your lunch in Ghara, you will visit Luri Gompa by drive.
Overnight at Teahouse.
Meal: (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 8

(Tiji day 01) Drive to Lo Manthang and witness the festival

After your breakfast, you will drive to Lo-Manthang. Today, you go directly to Lo-Manthang and check your room and order lunch in advance because you need to reserve a space for a better view of the festival. The afternoon will be the opening ceremony of the Tiji Festival.

You will also admire the water spouts before paying a visit to a Buddhist monastery nearby.
Overnight at Teahouse.
